Caught Live: LCD Soundsystem @ Avalon, Boston MA, 11 May 2007
I am cleansed. The world is great again. There is world peace, no more hunger, global warming, or whatever Earth ill you are looking to solve. We have seen the experience that is a live show from LCD Soundsystem.James Murphy & five friends cleared our minds with 80 minutes of the finest live dance music ever seen. Standouts were a faster, reworked "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House", and the amazing wall of sound that is "All My Friends".
The live drummer worked the hi-hats to the max to keep the crowd jumping all night. A percussionist came and went, adding that distinctive DFA cowbell sound. :) The cute woman on electronics, "Nancy", was up front next to James, twiddling knobs, singing, playing piano. The brilliant guitarist often switched to a bass, later percussion & electronics, all the while looking like a leftover from the Average White Band. [That's a compliment here]. The bassist hung in the back, sending thick steams of bass around the room, later trading for electronics.
Songs came in waves.. A simple dancefloor beat kicked off, layers and layers and layers added to the sound, coming off like an American style Underworld. It was the most dancing I've ever seen on the floor of a rock show. And no moshing. Brilliant.
You need to see this tour. Unfortunately there's not much chance left in the US.
