Spotted Live: Junior Boys, Middle East Downstairs, Cambridge, MA, Tue Apr 10

Kinetic and I hit the Middle East in Cambridge, MA Tuesday night for a set from Junior Boys, supporting their new EP The Dead Horse. Their anti-climactic sound is the ultimate non-headliner. They are a three-piece live set: drums, guitar/bass/vox, and knob twiddling. The melancholy songs translate so well live - a loungey love fest more than a hard rock celebration - and the electronics work well with live drums and spacey shoegazer guitar. I cant get "In The Morning" or "Like A Child" out of my head. They also worked thru "Double Shadow", and older tracks "Birthday" and my favorite "More Than Real". It was the perfect Tuesday night show - mellow head-nodding goodness.

Catch them on the rest of their US tour. And get there early - opener San Serac is a one man show so worth catching. He is disco house set is like 1975 Bowie meets 80's ABC and Luomo electronics. Brilliant.
