Travel Notes: Montreal's Minimal Techno

It's impossible to summarize the history and happenings of Montreal's minimal and experimental techno scene in this space, but here's a tip: If you're in town on the weekend, skip the frat-boy infested Crescent St. and spend some time with the locals at Laika on St. Laurent Street.

There you'll find resident dj/producer Colin "The Mole" warming up the room with deep techno and funked-up beats every Saturday night. Linked to Vancouver's minimal tech scene, The Mole has released a handful of his own material. Through 2005 The Trance Lab has featured his release with Mathew Jonson called "Dirt Road & A Beat From Soundwave" out on Kompakt Extra's Speicher 26 12". Check it out for loads of deep beats and thick bass.
